UNDERSTANDING THE CRISIS
Students from low-income communities across India are acutely underserved.
-
Not Enough Schools
The RTE Act 2009 only mandates free and compulsory education till age 14. Consequently, there is a huge lack of affordable secondary schools in India. For example, in Pune, only 16% of government-run schools have secondary grades (8-10).
-
Schools Failing to Deliver
The quality of the available schools is abysmal. Low-income students are typically many years behind their high income peers. Eg. Per the aser report, 50% of Grade 5 students cannot read a Grade 2 text.

-
High Chance of Dropout Post School
The process of successfully transitioning from school to college and building a career are incredibly difficult for low-income students. Today only 27% of Indian students enroll in college.
